The HIV prevalence is still increasing and no cure has been found by this day. There are approximately 33 million people living with HIV and every day there are over 7000 new transmissions. More than half of the new infections occur in the age group of 15 to 25 and from these about 60% are girls.

Although there are good HIV drugs which can prolong the life expectancy of HIV positive people they are not available to all. Providing people with reliable information, condoms and SRH services is crucial. Sexuality education which is provided in and out of school to young people as well as to adult population is in the heart of HIV prevention.

The Finnish All-Party Group on Population and Development and Väestöliitto want to raise this important issue on the World Aids Day in Parliament. The UNESCO has recently compiled sexuality education guidelines which are progressive and emphasize a comprehensive approach. Mr. Mark Richmond, Director, Division for the Coordination of UN Priorities in Education and UNESCO Global Coordinator for HIV and AIDS will give a introduce the guidelines and tell about the challenges they are facing because of conservative attacks.

There will also be a presentation on the sexuality education situation in the neighbouring areas of Finland and that of Finland.

You are warmly welcome to come and learn and discuss this important topic.

The Seminar will be held in English without interpretation.
