Training in Finland

KEPA's training is designed for everyone in Finland who is interested in global issues and problems in developing countries, including NGO representatives, students, and other civil activists. Internet courses may also be taken by members and representatives of Finnish NGOs' partner organisations around the world.

KEPA's courses in Finland are mainly organised in Finnish, but several courses each year are provided in English. Courses are usually held on KEPA's own premises in Helsinki.

The four main areas of KEPA's training are:

1. Training related to development co-operation projects:
   • basic and advanced project planning courses
   • project evaluation
   • project funding and financial administration
2. Development policy issues, with the effects of economic globalisation as a key theme.
3. Partnership, equality and participation. These themes are covered in separate courses, but are also integrated into other training in all sectors.
4. Training designed to support NGOs' publicity and advocacy activities, e.g.:
   • how to produce effective publicity materials
   • website design
   • campaign planning

Trainers may be KEPA's own personnel, experienced NGO activists, or other experts from the development field. Participants can also contribute and benefit by bringing their own experiences and knowledge to courses. Feedback is compiled on each course to help improve future training provided by KEPA.

In addition to such courses, KEPA also provides tailor-made project advice to help individual NGOs to plan, organise, monitor and evaluate their own projects related to development co-operation. These advisory activities also help KEPA to find out about more general problems facing NGOs, and to assess where more training is needed.
